Blogger Ipad App

Has anyone seen the blogger app for ipad? A few days ago it didn't even exist. You could download the app on the ipad, but it would be the iphone version. Well now no more! There is an actual version of blogger app for ipad.

Good Points:
1. clean style
2. easy to use (for posting and drafting)
3. can edit previous posts

Bad Points:
1. doesn't have different fonts (the ones you choose for how you want your blog to look like)
2. doesn't have editing options when writing a post therefore
3. can't move pictures to the left, right, or center, and can't add links

But otherwise I am glad they made the app.
(Hey they should sponsor me for talking about their app! Totally serious!)

It's way better than not having an app at all, and I can't wait to see if they add those editing options. Plus now I don't always have to sit in front of my laptop just to write a post, and hopefully I get more viewers now that I can make posts more regularly.

I can make a posts using my ipad when I'm in class or make a draft when I'm on the train and wait when I get internet connection to post it! There are certsi times when i'm on the train that I lose internet connection, and it jusr sucks. But at least with the app you can also save your draft and not lose any data.

交換日記

Lately I have wanted to write more, specifically in a diary. And sometimes it's a little boring to write to myself not knowing if someone is reading (in this blog), or my personal diary. So I looked if there were any apps for exchange journals, and I found the app called 交換日記, which is available in Japanese and English depending on your Iphone language settings.

Personally, I also looked online and so far have found nothing. All I find is that in 1990's in Japan exchange diaries were popular with girls in school. I didn't know this at all. When I was in middle school and high school I exchanged notebooks with close friends because I thought it was fun, and it was a way for us to talk about personal things or just things that interested us. Sometimes I would write during classes too.
I had no clue that some people in Japan also did this.

Though when I tried to find exchange diaries (交換日記) online, I got the impression that the information online was saying that the idea from exchange diaries came from Japan? Regardless, I think this has also been a popular thing in other countries.

~~~~This is where I transition~~~~
Does anyone want to do an exchange diary with me? I really want to do one, and I think it would be interesting to write to someone.
It's almost like being penpals right?! I love doing that too. And if you know spanish or japanese, I can do in that language too. But probably my japanese is still (I think) weak, my japanese diary will be limited... >__<
Still, I encourage you to contact me or leave comments with your thoughts. ^^ Stay warm this winter!
数字だけを欲しがる外国人社長: Foreign Company Presidents Who Only Want To See Facts and Figures
      ■Foreign Company Presidents Who Only Want To See The Facts And Figures(数字だけを欲しがる外国人社長)
      One of the things about the foreign-owned companies in Japan is that, in general most company presidents who are sent from abroad to run them are usually on only 2-3 year, short-term contracts.(日本の外資系会社の一般的事項として、日本へ派遣される社長は2~3年の契約社長である場合が多い。)
      Because of this, they only have a short time to bring about some results and transform their achievements into another step up the ladder to their promotion, so they spend about the first two years getting results and the last year in submitting self-praising reports in order to win themselves seats as stockholders, and they end up neglecting to mediate the work in the company in Japan.(従って任期中に成果を出して、日本での実績を次の昇進のステップにすることを考えるため、実際は2年程度の結果を基に最後の1年は欧州の株主への、出世のための自画自賛のレポートの提出に追われてしまい、日本での社内まとめの仕事はおろそかになる。)
      As a result, they end up wanting only results, using powerful carrot and stick policies, going after facts and figures only, and they do not make investments based on a long-term view of the future of the company.(この結果、短期間でとにかく結果が欲しくなり、勢いアメとムチの政策になり、数字だけを追う事になり、長期的展望にたった投資が行われなくなる。)
      The company president's instructions become something like, "I don't want excuses; I want only results!", and no one thinks about the mid-term efforts or bothers to plant the seeds for future good results.(従って社長からの指示は「私は言い訳は要らない。結果だけが欲しい」となり、誰も途中の努力とか、数年後の成功のための種まき的仕事をしなくなる。)
      What ends up happening is that those people who think only about immediate results end up getting the carrot and, for the Japanese, it becomes a very difficult and restrictive place in which to work because human relations are fraught with friction and selfish opinions and ruled by the facts and figures.(最終的にどうなるかと言うと、単なる数字の結果だけを出した人がおいしいアメをもらうことになり、日本人側から見ると、数字がすべてを支配するギスギスした自己本意の人間関係が幅を利かす職場になってしまう。)
      Let us show you some concrete examples of the types of actual intercultural clashes that occur in such companies.(では実際に異文化がもろに衝突する会社では具体的にどんなことが起こるのか触れてみよう。)
      JA(Japanese): The company we delivered the goods to have complained that three out of the one hundred products we sent were defective, and the Japanese, who are sticklers for quality control, say that "a 3% rate of defectiveness is much too high." What should we do?(納品された当社の製品が100台中3台不良との事で品質管理にうるさい日本では、「この3%の不良率は高い」とのクレームがついていますがどうすれば良いでしょう?)
      NJ (Non-Japanese): Well then, if we send them 103 products and they are able to get their 100 good quality items, then we will be able to satisfy their demands and they will have no reason to complain.(それなら最初から103台を納品すれば、お客は100台の良品を手にできる。これで彼らの要求に対して100%応えることになるのだからこれで文句はなくなるだろう。)
      JA: The same company has also complained that the nameplates have not been placed in the same position.(同社から同時にネームプレートの取り付け位置が一定していない、とのクレームも来ています。)
      What shall we do about this?(これはどうしましょう?)
      NJ: The products we sent were all dispatched having met the specifications in the catalog, so there should be no problem here.(カタログ上の性能はクリアしているのだから何も問題はないはずだ。)
      The location of the nameplates is not guaranteed in the catalog, so even if they bring a suit against us, we are fully within our rights, so there is no need to worry.(ネームプレートの位置までカタログ上で保証している訳ではないから、訴訟されても十分訴訟に耐えられるから心配するな。)
      JA: Our customers would like to know more about the quality of our products and have requested that we send them not only someone from the management but also someone from the quality control department to explain things to them.(お客から製品の品質について説明を聞きたいので、営業だけでなく品質保証課(QC)の人も来社して、彼らに説明するように要請がありました。)
      What shall we do?(どうしましょう?)
      NJ: Our company has a budget system and the budgets for business trips for each department have already been determined.(当社は予算制で出張旅費は各課ですでに予算が決まっている。)
      If someone from quality control were sent on the advice of the managing department, how would anyone be able to determine whether the funds for that trip had been sent from management to the quality control department?(営業の都合でQCが出張するなら、その金が実際、営業課からQC課へ振り込まれたかを経理では一体どのように確認するのかね?)
      JA: Can't the departments in the same company accommodate each other even this much?(同じ社内でそれくらい相互の融通を効かすことができないでしょうか?)
      NJ: What kind of stupid thing is that to say?(何をばかなことを言っているのかね?)
      A person who cannot stick to the determined budget for his department in the first place has no business being in management.(そもそもすでに決定された自分の課の予算も守れない人間はマネージメント能力がないと見なすのだよ。)
      JA: !!??(!!??)
      NJ: Of course personnel expenses are also in the budget system, so the budget also limits the amount of overtime we can pay every month.(当然、人件費も予算制なのだ。だから毎月の残業代だって予算上、支払上限がある。)
      JA: But sometimes people have to do overtime out of necessity...(でも、必要に迫られて残業が必要な場合もあるのでは…)
      NJ: Japanese people sure do like to accumulate overtime pay, don't they?(本当に日本人は残業代稼ぎが好きですよね?)
      If you have to do overtime, then that means that you are not doing a good enough job of managing your work in the first place.(残業するという事は結局君の仕事の処理能力がないからだよ。
      JA: !!??(!!??)
      NJ: In the monthly meetings, most of your people do not say anything.(月例会議をやっても、日本人は何も発言しない人が多い。)
      If you don't have any opinions of your own, then you are not qualified to be a manager.(自分の意見を持たないようでは、マネージャの資格はない。)
      Such people need not attend the meetings from now on.(そんな人は今後会議に出る必要はない。)
      JA: There is a language barrier, and for Japanese people, it is very difficult to present an argument to the company president's suggestions in English.(言葉の問題もあり、社長の提案に英語で反対意見を言うのは日本人として難しいのです。)
      Besides that, the Japanese, through the process of nemawashi, had already come to a general agreement over the items on today's agenda anyway.(それに今日の議題について、日本人の間ではすでに根回しである程度結論が出ているのですが…)
      NJ: You don't need to go through the nemawashi process.(ネマワシは要らない。)
      A meeting is already designed to be a place where everyone can argue their own opinions and thereby come to a better conclusion.(相互に自分の意見を戦わせて、より良い結論を導き出すのが会議というものだ。)
      JA: Logically, this may be so, but if we did this in Japan, we would never come to any agreements...(論理的にはその通りなのですが、それを日本でやったら何もまとまらないのでは…)
      JA: If some of the staff is absent, then there is too much work for the people present to do.(もし部員に欠員ができたら、今の人数では仕事量が多過ぎて苦しいのですが。)
      NJ: Even if it is difficult, it is better that the work is being done.(苦しくても回っているのなら、それでよい。)
      Doesn't it show the people how easy they have had it up until now?(今までいかに楽をしていたかという証明ではないか?)
      It's better if you think of it as a good chance to decrease the budget and increase the effectiveness of the workers.(予算を減らして一人当たりの効率を高める良い機会と考えればよいではないか。)
      JA: The staff say they are going to quit, so who should we promote to be the next section chief?(スタッフも辞めると言っていますが、次は誰を部長へ引き上げましょうか?)
      NJ: It takes too much time to promote someone from the ranks and groom them for the position.(内部の人を引き上げて育てていると時間がかかる。)
      In order to bring about results during my term of office, I want you to go out and scout for another suitable section chief immediately.(私の任期中に結果を出すには、すぐにどこかから部長をスカウトしてこい。)
      JA: Won't people begin to see the limitations being put on their own advancement and lose sight of their incentives?(それでは社内での出世の限界が見えてしまい、社員の励みにならないのではありませんか?)
      NJ: The present subsection chief is only good enough to be a subsection chief, so he will retain that position.(今の係長は能力が係長どまりだから係長の地位に留まっているのだ。)
      The nationality of the workers and the managers are different after all.(現場のワーカーとマネージャーとは、しょせん人種が違うのだ。)
      You need to scout a person who is most suitable to be a section chief.(部長には部長にふさわしい人をスカウトすることが必要なのだ。)
      This is what a society with separate jobs in separate companies is all about.(それが職種別企業社会というものだ。)
      JA: Don't you have a lot of problems with that kind of personnel system?(そのような人事では問題が多いのでは?)
      NJ: As the company president, I try to interpret the decisions made at the shareholders meeting.(これは株主総会の決定事項を、社長として伝えようとしているのだ。)
      In Japan it's different.(日本とは違う。)
      There, no one can oppose the decisions made at the shareholders meetings.(あちらでは株主総会の決定事項には誰も逆らえないのだ。)
      JA: (silence)((沈黙))
      JA: If you give bonuses based on the amount of the proceeds to the management only, doesn't that upset the equilibrium with the other sections in the company?(営業だけ売り上げに比例してボーナスを出すのは、メーカーとしてほかの部門との兼合いでまずいのではないでしょうか?)
      NJ: Profit is proportional to the amount of the proceeds.(利益は売り上げに比例する。)
      In Japan, it's the Japanese management who increase the proceeds, so it's only natural that they can give a bonus to whichever section they believe made the most efforts.(日本で売り上げを伸ばすのは日本人の営業なのだから、努力した部門へボーナスを払うのは当然ではないか。)
      In our company, all the plans are perfected in the main branch in the West and are used all over the world.(当社の製品は、設計はすでに欧州で完璧に行われており、世界中に売られている。)
      There is a manual for the structure of the branch in Japan, and there will be no problems as long as we follow that framework.(日本での組み立ても、マニュアルは完成しており、これに従って組み立てれば何の問題もない。)
      The factory section does not need to make as much effort as the management, so it is clear that they are not worthy to be included in the assessment.(営業と比べれば工場部門は努力は要らないのだから評価に値しないのは明らかだ。)
      JA: With that kind of system, you will lose all feeling of unity among the company workers.(このようなシステムでは、社員の一体感がなくなってしまいます。)
      If the manufacturing section has to increase its production in order to increase the company's proceeds, then they have to make an effort, too, and so they should be assessed along the same lines as the management.(製造部門も、売り上げが増し生産台数が増えればそれなりの努力が必要なのだから、営業と同様に評価すべきではないですか。)
      NJ: Why do the Japanese always have to include everyone like that?(なぜ日本人はそんなに横並評価が好きなのか?)
      The most just and fair system is the one where the section that made the most effort receives the most reward.(努力した部門だけを評価する事こそ真の公正な評価システムではないのか。)
      JA: !!??(!!??)
      Whew! We can understand what they are saying theoretically, but it is difficult to accept all the cultural differences they have with the Japanese, based on different histories, religions, and moral views.(いやはや、理論的には彼らの言っていることは分かるのですが、なぜか受け入れ難い。というのは、やはり日本人とは異質な歴史、宗教、道徳観からくる文化の違いなのでしょうか。)
      Arguing like this every day would exhaust anyone.(毎日こんな議論をしていると、誰であろうと疲れてしまいます。)
      Understanding another culture really is a lot more difficult than most people think.(本当に異文化を理解するということは、人が思っているより大変ですね。)
      Translator: Ellen Iwasaki(訳 エレン・イワサキ)
    Llesi's Opinion:
       First of, this article shows the non-japanese person as selfish, thus only caring about himself and not others who work under him. And it would be best to not generalize all non-japanese managers who come to Japan like this, since I think there are some people who are not like that.
       At the same time, based on this example, I do think this non-japanese person is being very unreasonable. This person doesn't care anything about how business is conducted in Japan, and doesn't care about cultural differences. In simple terms, this person is being ethnocentric. I would hate to have a manager like that. Probably I wouldn't even listen to this person and just continue with the work me and others have agreed on.
       I do know someone from my moms office who had a short period job in Japan, but I have no idea what he did. All I know is that the company provided him with the same living space he was accustomed to.
       But anyway, it is a huge part of this article that the non-japanese person really didn't care about cultural differences, but isn't it also how this company runs their managers? Do they really need a manager that's only gonna stay there for 3 years?
       So hopefully no one has to deal with such a situation with such a jackass. xD
    What do you think?
URL change and.....that's it
  So on my other page, I have written about my worries and possible outcomes that came about from me changing my URL here, and so......yea that's it. Maybe I should write it here too, really big. :D  drama312.blogspot.com
  That doesn't really affect this blog though, since I made this one separate from my other one, which I still update and look if I have any comments and what not. I made this separate one because 1) blogger or blogspot doesn't have that feature where you can have different pages like wordpress does without it actually being another website or just a plain page with one post (that's just boring)! And 2) because I felt that I wanted to write about my own life and opinions and just other things that didn't have to do with dramas, movies, manga, nor anime.
  I mean it's fun to talk about those things and to give my tips and perspectives, but other times I just want to write about how much of a shitty day I had or whatever happened to my life that has absolutely no affect on your life. You know, simply shit. Definitely not the diarrhea kind. xD
  But anyway, I have a paper to finish that is not even half way done.
  Until next time. ^.^
日本人の友達が欲しい/外国人が日本人を「JAP」と呼んでいる!
  I'm writing my homework for japanese class. We have to write about our favorite player; say things like their name, what sport it is they play, if they have 心(しん)•技(ぎ)•体(たい), and why you like this player. If we don't have any player that we like, we could also talk about why we don't like a player, or talk about a sports player from a manga/anime/drama/etc.
  I don't watch sports, and I have no particular interest in any sports player, so I decided to talk about a fictional basketball player from the Buzzer Beat drama (which I've written about here). While I was writing, I wasn't sure how to say the sentence "I made a new friend". I thought maybe 「人と友達を作った」would be weird to say? So I looked it up, and I found this article.
“Surely you can make a friend there!"”
を含む例文全文(▼該当箇所へ
■I want a Japanese friend who can be genuine with me!(本音で付き合える日本人の友達が欲しい!)
I recently saw something on a late-night TV show that was really interesting.(最近、深夜番組で、大変興味深いものを見ました。)
It's a popular program (or at least it is in the Kinki region in any case) where the plot revolves around Kansai comedians who call themselves "The Sleuth" and help members of the audience to resolve their problems and answer their questions.(それは、視聴者の相談事や疑問を、『探偵』と呼ばれる関西のお笑い芸人たちが解決したり答えたりするといった趣向の人気番組(少なくとも近畿圏では)です。)
One of the audience members asking a question was an Indian guy who said, "Although I've been in Japan for two years, I still don't have any friends.(その日の依頼者の一人はインド人男性で、こう言いました。「日本に2年もいるのに友達がいない。)
I'd like to be able to be friends with someone who I don't have to worry about diplomatic niceties with and, well, just be friends."(社交辞令抜きで、純粋に友人として付き合える友達が欲しい」)
This guy, we'll call him "Mr. R," is young, works for a computer company, has a nice personality, is decent looking, and speaks Japanese.(彼、(「R君」としておきますが)はコンピューター関連の会社に勤務する若者で、性格は気さくで、外見もまあまあ、日本語も話します。)
"The Sleuth" started off by saying, "It seems like you shouldn't have any trouble making friends," but after that there was a bit of a problem.(探偵は当初、「キミやったら、友達ぐらいすぐにできるでしょう?」と言っていました。しかし、そこからが問題でした。)
"Well, I have this image of my ideal friend, ya see ... " and with that he pulled out a piece of paper filled out top to bottom with things like, "Doesn't try to flatter me," "Is knowledgeable about computers," "Can go and have a beer with me," etc.(「ボクには理想の友達像があるんです…」と言って彼が取り出した紙には、『社交辞令を言わない』『コンピューターの知識がある』『一緒にビールが飲める』など、友達の条件がびっしり書き込まれていました。)
At that point, the comedian butted in and started giving the guy a piece of his mind.(この時点で探偵がつっ込みたしなめました。)
"Isn't making friends with somebody something that just naturally happens?(「友達ってもっと自然にできるものだろう?)
What do you expect when you've got all these conditions?"(そんな条件ばっかり言ってどうするの?」)
From there, the two decided to go out into the street and look for friends.(それから二人は街へ出て、友達を探しに行くことにしました。)
Mr. R yelled out what he was looking for, but what he said was just weird.(R君がめぼしい男性を呼び止めます。ところが彼の言ったことはとても変でした。)
"Hello.(「こんにちは。)
I can't stand diplomatic niceties and am hoping to find a friend who'll speak genuinely with me."(ぼくは、社交辞令が嫌いです。本音で話せる友達、欲しいです」)
Of course, there's nobody on earth who'd respond to a statement like that.(もちろん、こんな言葉に応じる人間はいません。)
Later on, "The Sleuth" caught somebody who had started to run away from Mr. R and asked what was wrong, "All of a sudden this guy starts yelling, and out of the blue I'm being talked to."(後で探偵がR君から逃げた人を捕まえて何が悪かったのかを聞きました。「突然大声で呼び止められて、いきなり話されてもねえ」)
In fact, of all the people that Mr. R talked to, there was only one person who it looked as if he might be able to carry on a conversation with.(R君が声を掛けた人の中で一人だけ、会話が続きそうな人がいました。)
When he saw Mr. R, he said, "Hey ... I see you at the gym sometimes.(彼はR君を見て言いました。「あなた、そこのジムで何度か見掛けました。)
I work at the reception desk."(僕、そこの受付なんですよ」)
This was the chance that Mr. R had been waiting for, but he could only continue on with, "Yeah, that's right, I do go to that gym.(これはR君が待ちに待ったチャンスでした。しかし、彼はこう続けました。「そう、そのジムに通っています。)
However I can't stand diplomatic ... " and so on.(でも、それは置いといて、ボクは社交辞令が…」etc.)
He had the chance and shot himself in the foot.(彼はチャンスをつかんだのに、墓穴を掘ってしまったのです。)
They were about to give up their search when "The Sleuth" came up with an idea.(もう街で探すのは無理だと思ったのか、探偵が提案しました。)
"Hey, let's go to your office!(「これから君の会社に行こう!)
Surely you can make a friend there!"(そこで友達を作るんや」)
At Mr. R's office, they held an emergency meeting, with everybody saying, "Um... this is weird, Mr. R."(早速R君の会社では緊急会議が開かれ、みな口々に「うーん、これは不思議だね、R君 」と言いました。)
As a general rule, everyone there seemed to speak genuinely and had no diplomatic niceties to them.(原則として、そこでは全員社交辞令無し、本音のみで話していたようです。)
All of Mr. R's 10 Japanese colleagues pretty much said how shocked they were to hear Mr. R, think that they were his friends.(R君の同僚の日本人約10名全員が、彼らはR君の友達だと思っていたので、そう言われてショックだったと言いました。)
Among them, the one who drew attention most was one of his female coworkers.(中でも目を引いたのが、彼の同僚の女性です。)
She had an honest look of shock on her face and said, "Mr. R and I often go and hang out together on our days off.(彼女は、本気でショックを受けた顔をして、こう言いました。「私、Rとは休みの日によく一緒に遊びに行ったりしているんです。)
When I heard what he said, I was like, huh?(彼の話を聞いて、えっ?という感じでした。)
What the hell had I ever done to him?(じゃあ私って一体何だったの?)
Weren't we friends?(友達じゃなかったの?)
In fact I've actually been the one who's had Mr. R say some rude things to me, eh.(実際に私、結構Rから失礼なこと言われているんですよ。)
He even told me that I was too heavy and should lose some weight."(体重が重過ぎるから痩せろとか、彼に言われてたりしたんです」)
(although she wasn't overweight at all).(彼女は全然太っていないにもかかわらず)
After this, when "The Sleuth" asked everyone, "Ok, if you think you'd like to be friends with Mr. R now, hold up the YES card," all but one person did so.(この後、探偵がみんなに「これから、R君と友達になろうと思う人はYESの札を上げてください」と言うと、一人を除いてみんながそうしました。)
Surely this means Mr. R's much despised "diplomatic niceties," but in fact, you guessed it... the one person who held up the NO card was his previously mentioned female coworker.(これはR君が何より嫌っている社交辞令と見て間違いないでしょう。一人だけNOの札を出したのは…。もう、お分かりでしょうが、あの同僚女性でした。)
He had been looking for someone to speak genuinely with him, but ended up losing a friend who was doing just that.(彼は、本音で話せる友人を探し続けてきて、結局、そうしてきてくれた友人を失ったのです。)
On top of that, Mr. R didn't realize it, but to know that almost all of his colleagues would be his friends.(その上、R君はそれに気付いておらず、ほぼ全員が自分と友達になってくれると思ったのでした。)
Perhaps there are some foreigners who want to say that Japanese people don't speak genuinely, but are Japanese people entirely to be blamed?(日本人は本音で話してくれない、と言いたい外国人の方は結構いると思いますが、それは、日本人だけの責任でしょうか?)
Even if Mr. R's case is a bit on the extreme side, do you have a problem on your side, too?(R君の例は極端だとしても、あなた方自身にも問題はないのでしょうか?)
■Foreigners are calling Japanese people "Japs"!(外国人が日本人を「JAP」と呼んでいる!)
Recently on the "Hello Station" bulletin board run by the Hiragana Times website, there was a message from an American man saying, "Wanting to meet Jap girls."(最近、ひらがなタイムズが運営しているインターネットサイト「Hello Station」に、Jap girlsと付き合いたいというアメリカ人男性からのメッセージがありました。)
The content of the message was extremely insulting to Japanese women.(そのメッセージの内容は、日本女性をひどく侮辱するものでした。)
Visitors that saw the message had posted various opinions as to the meaning of the word "Jap."(そのメッセージを見たビジターたちが、Japという表現についてさまざまな意見を書いていました。)
Some foreigners claim that "Jap" is merely a shortened form of the word "Japanese," but it strikes me as having a disrespectful meaning.(JapはJapaneseを短くしただけだという外国人もいますが、そこには軽蔑の意味が含まれているように私には聞こえます。)
As a matter of fact, during World War II, many Americans looked down on the Japanese, and heard from my grandfather that they had been called "Jap."(実際、第二次世界大戦のときにアメリカ人は日本人を軽蔑し、(日本人は)Japと呼ばれたと祖父から聞きました。)
Personally, I don't like being called "Jap" by foreigners, either.(私も外国人からJapと呼ばれたくはありません。)
On the flipside of this, Japanese often refer to foreigners as "gaijin."(これとは反対に、日本人は外国人のことを「ガイジン」と呼ぶことがよくあります。)
I used to shorten "gaikokujin" to "gaijin" myself until I asked foreign friends about this.(私も「外国人」を短くして「ガイジン」と呼んでいました。外国人の友達にこのことについて質問する前までは。)
Many foreigners said that they feel it to be a disrespectful word.(多くの外国人は、それを差別用語だと感じると言いました。)
Since I had absolutely no intention to be disrespectful, I was embarrassed by their answers.(私は軽蔑しているつもりは全くありませんでしたから、彼らの答えに戸惑いました。)
Surely many Japanese are like myself and just have no idea, however since I now understand how much foreigners dislike the word, I've decided to only use "gaikokujin."(多くの日本人も私と同じで、知らないだけではないでしょうか。でも、外国人がこの言葉を嫌がることが分かったので、これからは「外国人」だけを使うことにしました。)
Several years ago, Tokyo Governor Ishihara referred to Chinese residents as "Shina-jin," which caused the Chinese to protest and claim discrimination.(数年前に、石原都知事が中国人のことを「支那人」と呼び、中国人から(支那は)差別用語だと抗議がありました。)
Governor Ishihara insisted that it was not meant to be discriminatory, but to the Chinese, wasn't it the same thing as Japanese being called "Japs"?(石原都知事は差別用語でないと主張しましたが、中国人にとっては、日本人がJapと言われたのと同じ気持ちだったのではないでしょうか。)
Besides this, isn't it disrespectful to call Koreans "Chosen-jin" or Israelis "Jews"?(このほか、韓国人のことを「朝鮮人」、イスラエル人のことを「Jew」と呼ぶのも軽蔑になるのではないでしょうか。)
Do you use words like these to people you know who might find them offensive?(相手が軽蔑だと感じる用語を使っていませんか?)
You might want to think about it the next time you speak.(次に話すときには、そのことに留意してみませんか。)
  Llesi's opinion: Maybe this guy was blinded with what he thought was important in a friend (like the diplomatic niceties, or have interest in computers) to see that making friends is not about having a list of what you want in a person. Even friends have things they disagree on or personA likes but personB doesn't like. In that sense, I think he was looking for friends in the wrong way, and probably should hold some of his opinions to himself. It would be weird to be friends with a person after they have just insulted you about your weight!
  Next, I do think when Japanese people use the word gaijin is hurtful. When I was in Japan I heard it plenty of times, but I ignored those people. Sometimes I wonder why can't they refer to a person from their specific country, like american, or german, or south african or something like that. It is a different feeling from being called なんばん, but I still felt like the people who did call me gaijin were distancing themselves from the rest of the world. In other words, putting all gaijin in one group with no distinction, other than that they are not Japanese.
  Of course not everyone is like this. I think it depends on the person too. I know at first I did not know that Jap meant something negative. I saw it just as a shorter way to say Japan or Japanese. But after I heard my teacher talk about this, I decided not to use the word. I didn't really care whether people use Jap or JPN, but I thought it best to just avoid negative feelings for other people.
Politics
So many people around the world know that US has held their elections.
At the same day, Puerto Rico holds elections for the governor. You know, I still remember when I was little, that my dream job was to be governor. I get to argue with people, and make important decisions and actually get paid for it. Even now I'm very passionate about politics, and it starts getting more personal once it gets to things I really care about. So I wanted to share my status post that I had put in my facebook page:
" a little over 50% voted to be the 51st state, but that doesn't change anything.
i think some people have been making this much bigger than what it is. for example, Puerto Rico is only an interest to US as a military base within the caribbean since florida is too far away, and because there is a huge satellite that can be used to monitor the skies for military reasons again, though in Puerto Rico
 it is mostly used also for scientific reasons. I went to this thing and its so huge you can't even see the end of the mountain.
US already has access to these things, so becoming a 51st state doesn't really mean much to them.
It's like, why would I pay for the bread if I already get it for free?
second, people are very passionate about politics, and these discussions are also very personal! The whole island takes the day off for voting and because the speeches get heated. I mean, people start fighting over these things. So the way politic are carried out are different. Even if people vote, the decision is for the US congress to make.
third, and this is my personal opinion,
i don't want us to become a second hawaii, and i don't want us to become like the native americans in US. I don't care when people say "puerto ricans are second-citizens" because I don't see myself. My US citizenshipis only a paper. If I so happen to agree more with society in Denmark or something, I don't mind changing my citizenship.
I think we've already learned from what Hawaii went through, and what Phillipines went through. US is more interested in military matters, not domestic issues and adding people to their babysitting list.
Have you ever asked yourself or ever wondered to look why US has so many military bases around the world?
Maybe I am rambling, but sometimes we have to ask ourselves serious questions!
 This is how I truly feel, and sometimes I just wonder if other people really have wondered and bothered to research about all the locations of US military bases around the world. It makes me wonder what are their intentions. I mean, they should be more focused with their own domestic issues.
  But on a less serious note, please check out my main home page. I've updated a bit on the dramas I'm watching right now. So far I still have to talk about other dramas that I've already finished watching. I think I didn't write about them before just cuz I was plain lazy. So yea! :D If you like talking about asian dramas, or just any movies you think are awesome then I'm the person to talk to and get crazy with. XD
